"In the history of Latin American popular music there has never been a trio of voices and guitars more renowned than Los Panchos."  - Latin Beat Magazine, 2004 Trio Los Panchos, under the current musical direction of Gabriel Vargas Aguilar, the adopted son of co-founder Alfredo “El Guero” Gil, first attained international acclaim during the1940s and quickly became known as the foremost Latin musical group of the 20th century.  The new Los Panchos, now based in Veracruz, Mexico, continues the legacy of the original trio of guitarists and singers, performing the group's well-known arrangements of popular boleros, ballades and love songs, and touring throughout the Americas, including regular tours to the United States.  The trio has been attracting new audiences for its celebrated interpretations of such romantic Mexican, Cuban, and Latin American songs as “Besame Mucho,’’ “Contigo Apprendi’’ and “Sin Ti.’’  “Trio Los Panchos filled the Brava Theater in San Francisco with a romanticism from Mexico’s 1940-50s golden age.  With seductive vocals and a nostalgic sway, the trio named after Pancho Villa did two hour-long sets of classic Latin American love songs that enthralled the opening night audience (in the first of nine performances).  It was a bonding experience for emigrants from Mexico and Central and South America, who were able to relive the moments when they first heard these songs.  The music transported the audience back to a time when love songs were innocent but loaded with sensual innuendo.
