Metales M5 is Mexico's leading brass quintet. Since its founding in Morelia, the capital of Michoacan (in the Central Highlands between Guadalajara and Mexico City), the five gentlemen of Metales M5 have been playing a wide variety of music: Baroque and contemporary, selections from opera, blues, pop, and movie soundtracks, and folk music from Spain, Mexico and other Latin American countries. Programs offered can variously focus on Renaissance, Baroque and Classical music, Mexican folk music, compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach, Christmas music, or a combination of genres as evidenced in their newest CD, “Está Cañón.” M5 mixes the well-known with the unexpected - surprising, provocative and always entertaining. Metales M5 will tour a new program in 2010-2011 entitled “Music for California: From Spanish Baroque to Mariachi to Hollywood.” Proposed to California Presenters at its late May, 2009, conference, this program will be available for National Touring during the 2010-2011 season. Since early 2005, the group has performed over 250 concerts throughout Mexico, including a recent 28-concert tour sponsored by Fondo Regional para la Cultura y las Artes del Centro Occidente. Metales M5, which performs regularly in the Morelia Cathedral, in recent seasons has presented two national premieres for brass quintet and symphony orchestra, participated in the 17th International Festival of Music of Morelia, and inaugurated the International Festival “Rosario Castellanos” in Comitan, Chiapas. During 2008, M5 made its North American debut with performances in Texas, Nebraska, Vermont, Alberta (Canada), with the Pueblo (Colorado) Symphony, and during a fall U.S. tour of the Morelia Symphony Orchestra. Each of the five members of M5 has an illustrious professional background with his respective brass instrument. Holding degrees from universities in Berlin, Mexico City and Zacatecas, the musicians have played in the symphony orchestras of Monterrey, Guanajuato, Acapulco, Porto (Portugual), Mexico City, Aguascalientes, and are currently soloists with the Morelia Symphony Orchestra. With their unique style which combines fine chamber music with popular entertainment, Metales M5 is the most incomparable brass quintet in Mexico. Fresh, funny and extraordinary! “Metales M5 came and conquered Nebraska! I have never before seen a group so well received and with such joy. Thank you for all of your good help in bringing this superb group to our state. They were an absolute Grade A hit everywhere they appeared. It was a distinct pleasure to have Metales M5 in Nebraska.” – Bill Smith, Meadowlark Music Festival “M5 took the stage with an excellent concert, bringing the audience on a wonderful journey through various musical genres, such as jazz, popular, baroque, Mexican, musical comedy and even contemporary. Adding a touch of humor to the show, in which the whole audience was fascinated and fully content…” – Chiapas Daily “This group of five very fine musicians have established themselves as the finest active Brass Ensemble in all of Mexico. They are so very communicative whether representing Mexican culture with both classical and Mexican folk music or, in the same eclectic program, performing on a high level European classical Bach or Mozart, and then adding American Jazz or Argentina Tango. Intertwining the music with both humor and serious reading, Metales M5 are comfortable on stage and their audience was at ease in a celebration of Mexican Brass.” - Fred Mills, Professor, University of Georgia, and founding member of The Canadian Brass VIDEOS: LIVE at the BANFF CENTRE IN PERFORMANCE in MORELIA New Video of “Está Cañón" SHORT VIDEOS HOME BIOS PHOTOS AUDIO PROGRAMS REVIEWS TECH RIDER INQUIRIES |
