TAIKOPROJECTTAIKOPROJECT, founded in 2000 by artistic director, Bryan Yamami, is an ensemble of America's premier, emerging taiko drummers who are dedicated to preserving and disseminating American taiko drumming through public performances and educational activities.   Based in Los Angeles and performing regularly at the Japanese-American Cultural and Community Center, the ensemble's work balances the traditions and rich history of Japanese and American taiko with a contemporary edge while exploring new dimensions in the art form.

"TAIKOPROJECT: (re)generation" made its world premiere tour during the 2003-2004 season with performances at the University of Washington's Meany Hall and at Gammage Auditorium on the campus of Arizona State University, Tempe, among other venues.

In the fall of 2005, TAIKOPROJECT traveled to Japan to represent American taiko for the first time at the 4th Annual Tokyo International Taiko Contest.  The company made history by becoming the first foreign taiko group to win the contest.  TAIKOPROJECT subsequently returned to the U.S. to perform at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic as well as at the prestigious Ford Amphitheatre in Los Angeles in a sold-out TAIKOPROJECTperformance.

In 2007, the TAIKOPROJECT again toured "(re)generation" to sold-out houses and exuberant audiences in several Western states, as well as traveling to Japan, Canada, and the Middle East.  They have also performed at professional NBA and NHL sporting events and have appeared on several television programs.

TAIKOPROJECT offers educational programs and workshops for young people, from elementary through college levels.

“TAIKOPROJECT’s performances here at Meany Hall were a great success, leaving our audiences exuberant and ready for more” - Matt Krashan, University of Washington World Series, Seattle

“TAIKOPROJECT is one of the most exciting next generation ensembles playing today.  They play with sheer pleasure and consummate skill, telling a story of taiko that is deeply personal and recognizably universal.” - Martin Wollesen, University of California, San Diego
