David logo.jpg (11765 bytes)Denver's David Taylor Dance Theatre, which this season celebrates is 28th anniversary, is one of the West's most vibrant, innovative, and compelling contemporary ballet companies.  Featuring works by Mr. Taylor which often express his fascination with the metaphysical and ritualistic elements of dance, this 12-dancer troupe also performs dances by America's foremost contemporary choreographers such as newly appointed artistic director, James Wallace, Loyce Houlton, James Clouser, Milton Myers, Bruce Marks, Lynne Taylor-Corbett, and Charles Moulton.

Next season, the Company will will again tour Taylor.Rain.jpg (46957 bytes)David Taylor's acclaimed ballet, "Rainforest," danced to an original score by Jesse Manno.  This multi-media artistic collaboration explores the magic, mystery and fragility of South America's rainforests and the Amazon's indigenous peoples.  The full-length ballet, which is technically sophisticated and requires a day and a half load-in and rehearsal period, can incorporate several experienced teenage dancers from your community into the production.  "Rainforest" is also available in a one-hour, low-tech version ("Rainforest Odyssey") that can be performed separately as a program for young people or as part of a two-hour repertory program for family audiences.

This production has toured widely during the past few years, including to the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, California, to the Kennedy Center Imagination Celebration in Colorado Springs, and to numerous cities in the South, Midwest, and Western States.

"'Rainforest' is a visual and dancing delight.  Refreshing!  Simple, elegant, and magical, (it) charmed children and adults alike.  Add imaginative costuming and evocative choreography and you have a total theatrical experience." - New Orleans Times-Picayune

Other ballets in the repertory includes James Wallace’s “Carmina Burana” (Orff), Lynne Taylor-Corbett's "Appearances" (Pat Methany), Taylor's "An American in Paris" (Gershwin), Bruce Marks's signature work, "Lark Ascending" (Vaughn Williams), Charles Moulton’s “Nine Person Precision Ball Passing,” James Canfield’s “Anais” (Ravel) "L'Après-midi d'un Faune" (Debussy), and, during the holiday season, David Taylor’s "The Nutcracker."

In addition to full concerts and mini-performances, the company offers residency activities such as lecture-demonstrations, master classes in ballet or modern dance, and programs for such special audiences as seniors, the handicapped, and others with limited access to the arts.

"The stage was filled with powerful performers, exquisite of line, drilled to near-perfection and quite comfortable with even the most extraordinarily demanding piece.  Simply put, you have to see the new Taylor company to believe it." - Rocky Mountain News
